What Is PAN 2.0?
PAN 2.0 is an upgraded version of the traditional PAN card, introduced under Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act. Key upgrades include:
Biometric Linking: Optional Aadhaar-based biometric authentication for added security.
QR Code Integration: A new QR code on the PAN card stores encrypted holder details for quick verification.
Tighter KYC Norms: Mandatory document verification to eliminate duplicate or fake PANs.
Dynamic Updates: Easier online updates for changes in address, phone number, or other details.
The move aligns with the government’s push for a fraud-resistant financial ecosystem and better compliance under initiatives like the GST regime and tax transparency laws.
